Grounded Unveils G2 Reverence: Grounded’s First Artist Collaboration Vehicle on the World’s First 270+ Mile Range Electric RV

The Detroit-based startup’s first fully customizable G2s began deliveries in October 2023

Pioneering electric RV startup Grounded brought its brand new G2 Reverence to Overland Expo Mountain West - the world’s first 270+ mile range all-electric solar-equipped RV with a hand-painted exterior done by Detroit-based artist Ivan Montoya.

“The G2 is radically different from any other offering on the market,” said Grounded CEO Sam Shapiro. “It’s a profound step toward a future of fully electrified motorhomes, and makes sustainable travel truly achievable. We’ve designed the G2 with a smart layout to perfectly fit customers’ needs at the start, while also being as flexible as possible: our truly modular interior delivers on the promise of fast manufacturing and a continually upgradable RV interior. The vehicle also comes with smart home technology including the Grounded+ mobile app for remote control and monitoring of all systems.”

Key Features of the G2

The G2, built on the GM BrightDrop platform, offers up to 615 square feet of living space and promises tactile comfort, instant acceleration, and effortless control. This all-wheel drive (AWD) vehicle has a range of over 270 miles on a single charge fully loaded.

In addition to the 173kWh vehicle battery, Grounded adds an additional 10kWh house battery to the interior, which can be charged from vehicle battery as well as 1000 Watt rooftop solar capacity.

The G2 also includes Starlink for high speed internet anywhere you go, the Grounded+ mobile app for remote control (e.g. warm up water for a hot shower before you get back from your hike), rear heating and cooling, ample storage space, indoor shower and wet bath options, hot water and induction stovetops.

Every G2 also comes with a vehicle platform warranty covered by BrightDrop for 8 years or 100,000 miles - whichever comes first, and an interior warranty from Grounded that covers the replacement of any product that breaks within one year due to a product defect. Grounded also provides remote over-the-air software updates and diagnostics, as well as a 1-year interior warranty.

Advanced safety features like front pedestrian braking, front and rear parking assist, and Lane Keep Assist protect the G2 driver and those around the vehicle.

BrightDrops are able to be serviced at most GM service centers around the country, and the BrightDrop can be charged at thousands of nationwide destination EV chargers, including Ford charging network, Electrify America network, and other public EV chargers with CCS connectors. The BrightDrop will also soon be added to the Tesla supercharger network, and Grounded customers will be provided with an NACS charger adapter to make use of this.

The Grounded+ app connects the company’s proprietary software to all of the electronics used, allowing RVers to view their own energy usage patterns and optimization possibilities, turn appliances on and off remotely, see real-time battery and water levels, and diagnose potential issues.

Modular Interior

The G2 interior implements a grid-based modular system in which customers can design their vehicle layout by selecting from a library of modules and choosing the location of each module. Once a customer places their deposit, a Grounded team member will work with them to create a custom layout which, once approved by the customer, will be quickly assembled by the Grounded team.

These modules attach to exposed mounting rails within the vehicle for maximum flexibility. This allows customers to add and remove modules themselves based on use cases, life changes and general redecoration needs. The rails can also be utilized by customers for mounting additional accessories, either from Grounded or provided by the customer themselves. We've had customers create their own additions ranging everywhere from TV mounts to kitchen utensil holders.

The interior of the G2 is modern, durable, and inviting, and designed with sustainability and comfort in mind. It has a homey, warm feel to it that makes you feel like you’re in a cabin in nature.

“To design the interior, we drew inspiration from contemporary Nordic outdoor gear,” said Shapiro. “Optional components include a spacious RV queen bed, seating for up to 7, a large flip-up table for work or dining, and a well-equipped kitchen for the adventurous chef. We offer smart solutions to optimize space to bring more people along, or to fit in all your gear, like a raisable bed, sleeper sofa, and bike wall mount.”

Aluminum, known as the green metal for its infinite recyclability, is also used in constructing the modular interior structure.

G2 Reverence

For G2 Reverence, unique design choices were made to tie into Grounded’s recent brand refresh. Neon green door handles and rail-mounted accessories add pops of excitement to the interior, while furniture modules and wall panels constructed from Red Oak elevate the aesthetic of the camper van with premium natural wood surroundings.

The hand-painted exterior, done by artist Ivan Montoya, uses Grounded’s color palette to depict scenes of nature across the vehicle. Different textures and layers can be seen in the painting across the vehicle when up close, giving viewers a sense of intrigue and awe.

In Ivan’s words, “As an artist, I have always been deeply inspired by the awe that comes with exploring the vastness of our world, especially during road trips. The immensity of nature and the breathtaking beauty that stretches across our country has always left a profound impact on me. The Grounded team and I had that in common from the start. My intention was to capture a slice of that feeling—the sense of wonder and connection to the landscapes we travel through. This design challenge the G2 presented was a welcome one. I had to understand it as more than just a vehicle; it is a canvas that reflects the spirit of adventure and reverence for the natural world. I wanted it to be a gracious guest in the environments it inhabits, not detracting from the views but instead, enhancing the experience of those who encounter it. I hope the vastness of hues and textures when discovered up close evokes that same wonder that we encounter outdoors.  My hope is that this painted RV not only serves as a mode of travel but also as a moving tribute to the beauty that surrounds us on every journey.”

Vehicle Specifications

Now available in two sizes, Grounded’s modular interior can make a home out of the larger, more spacious Zevo 600 platform or the smaller, more nimble Zevo 400 platform.
